SUMMARY:Digital Inclusion for communities
DESCRIPTION:Project summary\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRural farmers communities in Plateau State face various challenges\, including lack of access to drinking water\, access to modern farming techniques\, inadequate infrastructure\, and the impact of climate change\, also lack of electricity makes night learning and nightlife impossible. \nAlthough most have decent school buildings but lack skilful educators\, 80% of educators\, students and youths are unaware of recent technological advancements\, especially AI and how it supports learning. \nIn recent years\, the state has experienced frequent ethnic and religious conflicts within the farmer’s communities\, leading to the displacement of communities and loss of livelihoods. This project shall be an annual rotational event to be organized and hosted in different farmers communities each year to help bridge the energy and digital divide and engage young future farmers in peacebuilding activities\, using sports as a unifying force which can help form a cohesive community identity. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Challenges\nAs we were busy preparing for Christmas\, we never knew what awaited us\, until late in the evening when we started hearing gunshots from all directions. As narrated by Awfuil\, a survivor of the 2023 Christmas Eve Massacre in the Plateau Village of Bakkos\, a rural farmers’ community that lives at the mercy of gunmen. According to the Nigerian Red Cross Society\, the Christmas attack affected 84 communities\, caused 161 deaths\, and 29\,350 persons displaced. The Nigerian government has struggled to find a lasting solution to the conflict\, which continues to pose a serious threat to peace and stability in the country. \nAfter the Christmas Eve massacre\, Our Skill Builders Community (IYDN-SBC) team partnered GlobalGiving to skill up 300 survivors and reintegrate them into a peaceful society\, which is presently ongoing. \nThis new initiative is conceived to manage the future reoccurrence of this deadly ethnic clash to change the mindset of the future generation by using the outlined project activities to strengthen social bonds\, through joint learning\, team-building and exercise\, it will also bridge the knowledge gap\, providing access to educational opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach for rural farmers kids. \n\n\n  \nProject Activities\nInternational Youths Development Network and her Skill Builders Community (IYDN-SBC) Plateau State Chapter shall be organising these 2 weeks events annually\, involving new communities with the following activities:  \nInstallation of two solar street lights at the community centre to enhance nightlife and help secure lives and properties  \nTrain rural educators\, students and youth farmers\, using videos to show them the latest technologies and how to use them in teaching\, learning\, and crop production.  \nTrain community members on basic use of mobile phones and the internet\, e.g.\, financial inclusion\, digital marketing for their farm produce and how to be safe and responsible online.  \nTrain community youths on renewable energy skills\, and link them to partners where they can acquire these gadgets at affordable and with instalment payment options.  \nA two-day peacebuilding workshop for the entire community members\, security agencies and the local government representatives.  \nTo wrap up the event\, we shall organise a day sporting event\, for both males and females and all religious and ethnic groups residing in the community.  \n\nLong-Term Impact \nWith the proposed Annual Digital and Energy Inclusion\, Peace Building and Sports Bootcamp for Rural Farmers Kids\, International Youths Development Network and her partners hope to change the mindset of future farmers by using the outlined project activities to strengthen social bonds among participants through team-building exercise and competition\, to reduce farmers ethnic conflicts.

SUMMARY:Help Survivals of 2023 Christmas Eve Massacre
DESCRIPTION:Event Description\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe International Youths Development Network Skills Builders Community in Nigeria has joined forces with GlobalGiving and various local partners to launch a training and empowerment program for 300 internally displaced individuals who endured the 2023 Christmas Eve Massacre in Plateau Village\, Bakkos. This rural area\, which has suffered greatly at the hands of armed attackers\, witnessed the impact on 84 communities\, resulting in 161 fatalities and the displacement of 29\,350 residents. The ongoing conflict represents a significant challenge to peace and stability in the region\, a challenge the Nigerian government continues to address without a definitive resolution. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChallenge\nInternally Displaced person in Nigeria receives short-lived attention from the government and are thereafter left to their fate\, as a result\, they face the challenge of accessing basic services such as food\, water\, shelter\, and healthcare. Also\, because they can’t return home\, and are unable to work or access income-generating opportunities\, leads to hardship\, exploitation\, abuse and disruption of their children’s education. This often increases stress\, anxiety\, and mental health problems for IDPs. \n\nSolution\nSince the government has yet to find a lasting solution to this conflict\, the best option now is to skill up the survivors and reintegrate them into a peaceful society. The IYDN Skills Builders team are presently training this displaced person with essential skills which include carpentry\, tailoring\, cosmetology\, food processing\, entrepreneurship and financial literacy. These skills are selected based on local demand for labour and the potential for the trainees to start their businesses. \n\nLong term impact\nPractical skills training provided by our team shall enable IDPs to gain employment\, start their small businesses\, and reduce reliance on humanitarian aid contributing to their financial resilience. Also\, this can have a positive impact on their mental health and well-being\, helping them to rebuild their lives with dignity and purpose and be able to return their children to school and build a better future for themselves and their communities\, leading to lasting positive impacts.

SUMMARY:IYDN Skills Builders Initiative
DESCRIPTION:Event Description\nThe IYDN Skills Builders Initiative is a transformative project designed to empower young individuals with essential skills\, and resources to thrive in a rapidly evolving world. \nIYDN works with local and international partners to train disadvantaged youths in Africa\, helping them gain life skills through our network of local skills acquisition centres. Our mentoring\, life-skills training\, and empowerment program through these local skill centres empower disadvantaged youths and help end the cycle of unemployment. \nTo properly address the root cause of poverty and unemployment among the growing youth population in sub-Saharan Africa\, effort is needed in identifying its causes and fixing them rather than just suppressing its symptoms. Sad\, millions of youths drop out of school each year in Sub-Saharan Africa\, while those who are fortunate to complete university studies are unable to secure jobs as a result of limited job opportunities. This has made many youths engage in unprecedented heinous crimes\, such as armed robbery\, internet fraud\, illegal migration\, ritualistic killings etc. \nIYDN in her quest to identify tomorrow’s transformational leaders today has identified a root cause of poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa that needs urgent attention which is; Skill Development and empowerment. Based on our findings\, the majority of both graduate and dropout youths are victims of unemployment\, on this note\, an alternative for sustenance and creating jobs for the future generation is by training and empowering youths. Today a lot of organization are commendable doing this\, but IYDN have observed that it’s not just enough to train youths in different skills and leave them to their fate. Instead\, our project team wants to use a different innovative approach which we codenamed IYDN Skills Builders Initiative\, using our TEP approach. \n\n\nTrain. Empower. Promote.\n\nTrain youths in any area of their interest based on international/local business and job practices\nEmpower participants\, with startup equipment and finance via our youth bank/secure them a job from both local/international firms\nPromote each Youth TEP Network Participant through various channels\, link them up to market\, and provide them with free business growth advice
